A total of 35 civil servants and businesspeople are involved in advising the Government on how Shannon Airport and Shannon Development are to be restructured.

The Department of Transport and the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation yesterday confirmed that they had established a steering committee and two task forces.

Transport Minister Leo Varadkar announced last month that he was going to separate Shannon Airport from the Dublin Airport Authority structure. The functions of Shannon Airport and Shannon Development will be merged.

A steering group is headed by secretary generals Tom O'Mahony and John Murphy from the Transport and Enterprise Departments respectively. The taskforce focused on aviation business development is chaired by current Bord Gais chairperson Rose Hynes.

The 'Change Management' taskforce is headed by former Dublin City Council manager, John Fitzgerald. The panel includes former Enterprise Ireland boss Dan Flinter.

A spokesman for the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport said none of the panel members was being paid.
