KICKSTARTER, the website that allows start-ups to seek funding from the worldwide online community, said that a milestone 100,000 projects have now been launched through its site.
Kickstarter allows entrepreneurs to advertise their ideas and seek seed funding online, from users around the world. It was founded four years ago and brought the concept of 'crowd-funding' to global attention.
It says 44pc of the 100,000 projects have been successfully funded.
Users have so far pledged about $630m (€486m).
Film and video companies have been the most popular category for investment, followed by games.
Rounding out the top five are design, music and technology projects.
