Retail workers, this one's for you.

A jewellery shop boss in the UK has decided to not open his doors on St Stephen's Day in response to the mounting pressure on retailers to open almost 365 days a year.

Peter Wong 45, the current boss of Wong's Jewellers, an independent jewellery store in Liverpool,  took to the store's Facebook page to share a video explaining his decision.

"As a family man I understand the value of spending time with those you love at a precious time of the year," he said.

Currently the issue of retailers opening for St Stephen's Day is in hot debate in the UK, as a change.org petition has received over 200,000 signatures in favour of shops closing on December 26th.

Speaking to the Independent.ie, Deputy Manager Chelsea Jefferson said that the store employees are delighted with Mr Wong's decision and that they have received numerous phone calls and messages of encouragement since the video went live on Monday.

"We are proud that our Director Peter is forward thinking, innovative and not happy to be pressured and sit with 'the norm' where larger retailers open Boxing Day," she said.
