The director of seafood company Errigal Bay, Liam Young, has been awarded the Chartered Director award 2017 at the Institute of Directors (IoD) awards.

Mr Young received the award alongside Karen Hennessy, CEO of the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland, who was presented with the Graduate of Merit award.

Held every two years, the IoD awards recognise the achievements of Chartered Directors and graduates of the programme in contributing to organisational direction and driving board effectiveness and business performance.

"In Liam Young and Karen Hennessy we have two very worthy winners who positively contribute to business performance and to improving governance standards in Ireland," Michael Somers, IoD President, said.

Mr Young achieved Chartered Director accreditation in 2011.

Having previously served on the board of fleet management solutions company Fleetmatics, Mr Young is now a director and CEO of Errigal Bay, which employs over 200 people at plants in Wexford and Donegal.

Meanwhile Ms Hennessy, who completed the IoD’s Chartered Director Programme in 2016, has been at the forefront in developing and strategically positioning Ireland craft and design sector.

Ms Hennessy is chairman of Showcase Ireland Events, as well as a director of the Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training board.
