Afternoon tea is a lovely treat, but for a budget-friendly option, munch on a hot beverage and cake deal from Irish-owned Insomnia for only €4.50. We loooove their peanut butter chocolate slice (pictured).

Rather than opting for branded leisurewear, you could swap Claudia's Nike and North Face clobber for good ol' Penneys comfy hoodies (€15) or trainers from €9. We particularly like these colourful trainers for €15, and feel they would brighten up any person working from home's office, ie, their sofa!

If you can't afford to visit the hair salon, and don't mind the risk of dyeing your bathroom while you're at it, a home colouring kit is the answer. Try L'Oreal Preference Mousse Absolue in very light gold blonde (shade 1031) for only €10.99 from Or take advantage of hairdressing schools like Toni&Guy Academy, who offer ladies' cuts for €25 and balayage for €45 by supervised trainees.
