One of the most popular show jumping competitions for young horses takes place at the Bannow and Rathangan Show in Killag, Duncormick, Co Wexford on Thursday.

The €2,500 Pettitt's Novice Show Jumping Championship for five and six-year-old horses is considered an important fixture on the calendar for a host of young horse producers.

It has been won in the past by riders such as Francis Connors and Ger O'Neill.

Following this class will be the Grand Prix which is a leg of the TRM/Horseware National Grand Prix League.

Sponsored by trainer Jim Bolger, this carries a prize-fund of €4,000.

Winner here in 2014 was jump jockey Robert Power, who continues to enjoy competing on the show jumping circuit during the summer months.

The show jumping programme at Bannow and Rathangan runs alongside a packed schedule of showing classes for horses and ponies.
