A crowd of up to 5,000 thronged Coolfinn, Rathdowney yesterday for the annual Ossory Show.

There was no shortage of silverware on offer as this is one of the premier agricultural shows in the midlands.

The livestock classes are always a huge draw, with entries from west, east, north and south ensuring that there was stiff competition in all the various classes.

Among the winners were Marie Ryan from Thurles with the AIB Interbreed calf champion, Alex McGuinness with the beef bullock champion and Erwin Stanley from Clough with the champion crossbred Belgian Blue champion.

Away from the serious fare, there was plenty of sport and craic around the Tug-O-War between Errill and Rathdowney, and the donkey derby.
