What will €200k get you?

If you happen to have €200,000 handy and are in search of land, two pieces on the market at the moment, one in the Royal county and one in the Kingdom, provide an interesting contrast.

If you walk into the offices of Sherry Fitzgerald Royal in Trim, Co Meath, with your €200,000 you could be in prime position to buy 23ac of permanent pasture with a two-bay haybarn and watered by a river and stream at Kilglynn, Kilcock, Co Meath.

However, if you take the train to Killarney and stroll into the offices of Tom Spillane, the same money could buy you 135ac at Reenroe, Ballinskelligs, the site of the proposed Waterville Beach Hotel. Located two miles from Waterville and adjacent to Waterville Golf Course, the property is set on Reenroe Beach enjoying 800m of access to the sea.

Like much of the land in the more scenic south west, the farm comprises some decent grazing ground and a good deal of marginal land.

The Meath property will be sold at Trim Castle on Wednesday, June 19, while the Kerry property is for sale by private treaty.

Smaller parcels are still the backbone of the current market.

Typical of these is an attractive parcel just outside Kildare town. Extending to 25.38ac, it is being guided by Jordan Auctioneers at €253,000 or €10,000/ac. It will be offered for public auction at 3pm on Wednesday, June 26 at the Keadeen Hotel, Newbridge, Co Kildare.
