The four-bedroom farmhouse at Caheragh, Skibbereen

A 120ac, modern residential farm located at Madore, Caheragh, Skibbereen in west Cork is the perfect dairy operation. It is on the market by private treaty with a guide price of €1.3m or between €10,000 and €12,000/ac.

The farm is the former home of Liam Shiely, a renowned Cork dairy farmer who in 2009 bought a 550ac holding with a 165,000gal quota at Castle Annaghs, New Ross, Wexford for €6.075m. He has since relocated to Wexford where he milks up to 600 cows and he uses the farm in Cork as grazing ground for replacements.

The property is five miles from Skibbereen, eight miles from Bantry and is described by John Hodnett of Hodnett Forde auctioneers as an outstanding holding laid out in a number of large easily-worked fields with a central farm roadway. The farm has extensive road frontage on either side of the main Skibbereen to Bantry road (R594) with both parts connected by a cattle underpass for ease of livestock management.

The residence is a two-storey, four-bedroom, traditional stone-built farmhouse with accommodation that includes a sitting room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom.

It has been refurbished and modernised over the years and while it has not been lived in for some time, according to Mr Hodnett it is in turn-key condition.

The extensive array of farm buildings are in excellent condition and comprises a 16-unit milking parlour, a slatted cubicle house with wintering accommodation for 150 cows, calving pens, two covered silos, an open silo and a large selection of general farm buildings.

The farm can be bought as an entirety or in three lots that are naturally divided. Lot A is comprised of the residence and farm buildings on 69.395ac, while Lot B is made up of 26.3111ac, Lot C is a parcel of 24.240ac and Lot D is comprised of the entire 120ac. John Hodnett says this is one of the finest dairy farms on the market in west Cork and believes it will be the subject of widespread interest.
