Warnings over fungicide use
Wheat growers desperate for new sprays to protect their crops from the ever-increasing threat of Septoria were warned to tread carefully with the latest fungicide technology at an Irish Tillage and Land-use Society meeting in Athy last week.
Wheat growers are concerned after this year saw the worst performance ever of the triazole chemistry. UCD's Dr Tom McCabe warned that new carboxamide products such as Aviator relied on a single site mode of action.
"This makes them very similar to strobilurans which we only got about seven good years out of before they broke down with disease resistance," he said.
