W440 model perfect for small contractors
For growers who are looking for more independence and considering buying their own small combine, and indeed for smaller contractors, John Deere is introducing the new W440 model.
This is an interesting move by Deere, who claims the small combine will offer reliability and simplicity at a low operating cost.
However, it is not an original John Deere product. Instead, the W440 will be a green and yellow-branded machine that is the result of a marketing agreement between Deere and the Finnish combine manufacturer, Sampo Rosenlew Ltd.
As of 2015, the 238hp six-walker W440 will be available in two versions, either with or without a pre-threshing cylinder (PTC).
Features include an active separation area of 0.62m2 or 1.03m2 with PTC, a large 4.5m2 cleaning shoe and a straw walker area of 6.3m2.
While the standard W440 comes with a 6,500-litre grain tank, the W440-PTC can hold as much as 8,000 litres of clean grain and can be emptied at a rate of 100 litres/second.
While Deere were slow to pin themselves to a retail price, the Farming Independent has learned the W440 combine is set to be priced in the region of €115,000 plus VAT.
