visitor numbers grow at 2012 grass and muck show
Latest slurry and silage kits pull in the crowds at the FTMTA event at Gurteen Agricultural College
Last Thursday's 2012 FTMTA Grass and Muck event at Gurteen Agricultural College, Birr, Co Offaly, was yet another resounding success.
The weather co-operated reasonably well and the event went off without a hitch. The indications are that visitor numbers were up around 30pc on the 2010 event, to around 13,000.
A central, static display area provided visitors with an opportunity to view equipment at a leisurely pace.
Working demonstrations attracted waves of visitors as each manufacturer strutted its metal stuff, and unlike Grass and Muck in Britain, the site at Gurteen does not require huge distances to be walked between plots.
Towards the end of the day at Gurteen the buzz among exhibitors was about developing Grass and Muck into a two-day event.
The suggestion was that on the second day run a cereals and sprayers tillage type event.
The following is a selection of what was on offer throughout the day and there will be more about the popular event in next week's edition.
