Very keen on Enniskeane

Dairy unit guided at €10,000/ac

Jim O’Brien

In motoring terms, a farm complete with milk quota and entitlements would surely be regarded as a top-of-the-range model. Such a proposition comes to the market in the shape of a 42ac west Cork farm with a 46,578ga milk quota and €9,644 in entitlements.

Located at Ardkitt, a mile south of Enniskeane village and not far from Clonakilty, the land is part of a renowned dairy unit.

Hodnett Forde Property Services is offering the farm for sale by private treaty. John Hodnett describes the land as good, low-lying, well-sheltered pasture that is fenced and laid out in large divisions, and has its own water supply.

Despite no farm buildings, the land has road frontage on to the Clonakilty to Enniskeane road on the western boundary and on to a country road on its eastern side.

“In view of the milk quota and entitlements that come with the land, we are getting great interest from active dairy farmers. However, the place is equally suitable for other types of farming,” Mr Hodnett said.

In order to appeal to as broad a number of customers as possible, the 42ac unit is being offered for sale in four lots. Lot one consists of 9.28ac, with 10,311ga of quota and €2,135 in entitlements. Lot two is 21.32ac, with 23,729ga of quota and €4,913 in entitlements. Lot three is made up of 11.28ac , 12,538ga of quota and €2,596 in entitlements. Lot four is the entire. Given that milk quotas are due to finish in 2015 it is difficult to establish what added value it will bring to the sale, but it has a guide of €10,000- 12,000/ac. “No doubt the quota and the entitlements will have a real effect on what this land makes,” added Mr Hodnett.
