Vendeen breeders are hoping to record a 75pc conception rate in the ewes they have used AI on and keen to see the resulting lambs in 2014.

Inspected by the Irish Vendeen Sheep Society chairperson Cheryl O'Brien on a recent trip to Limoges, France, the AI rams are an exciting addition to both the Irish and international Vendeen flock.

The Vendeen breed is performing well in the LambPlus ratings, with very high overall sheep values in lambing, production and maternal traits.

This year the Irish Vendeen Sheep Society (IVSS) nominated Mark Crowe as the recipient of its Hall of Fame award.

As a much-valued and hard-working member of the IVSS Council for more than a decade, Mark was both chairperson and then secretary.

He also brings a wealth of experience and is an associate professor in the Veterinary Science Department of UCD. For more information on the breed, visit
