Farmers in Tipperary just failed to break the world record for the number of tractors standing in one place on the same day.
Over 1,100 tractors from various parts of Ireland assembled in sunny weather at Thurles Racecourse on Sunday. However, they were just shy of the 1,231 tractors record which was set in Quebec, Canada.
Tractor enthusiasts from all over Ireland attended the event which attracted a crowd 5,000 to Thurles.
The attempt was organised by the Irish Vintage Engine and Tractor Association. The record attempt was a fundraiser for Thurles unit of the Order of Malta.
ALLEGED ARSON KILLS 4,000 PIGS
More than 4,000 pigs were killed in an alleged arson attack in Co Newry at the weekend.
Fire appliances tackled an intense blaze at a farm outbuilding on Derrywilligan Road, Mullaghglass, on Saturday morning.
Three sheds were destroyed, while 800 sows and 3,500 piglets are believed to have died.
