The European Commission has withdrawn its challenge against the Department of Agriculture's public tendering process for Ireland's multi-million euro cattle tagging contract.
The Chief State Solicitor's Office informed Department officials on Tuesday that the case listed for May 19, 2011 had been cancelled.
A Department spokesman said the Commission was in the process of withdrawing its proceedings and the EU's Court of Justice had decided to cancel the hearing.
Meanwhile, some farmers trying to register calves online last week encountered major difficulties in accessing the Department of Agriculture site, www.agfood.ie.
It is believed the problems were encountered by farmers using internet browsers such as Google Chrome. Farmers are being advised to try using a different browser or call 1890 252 118 for assistance.
