Successful bidder acquires 21ac holding near Crosskeys for ¤195k

A 21ac residential farm located at Crosskeys, Co Cavan, was sold at auction recently for €195,000.

Located at Tullytrain, 1.5km from the village of Crosskeys, the farm was part of the estate of the late Sean Maguire.

The property consists of a three-bedroom bungalow on 21ac of grassland, with a farmyard that includes a cubicle house, machinery shed, hayshed, cattle pen and chute.

According to auctioneer Padraig Smith, the land was in good heart and laid out in a number of manageable divisions.

The holding was offered for sale in three lots. Lot one was made up of the entire; lot two, the house on 1.24ac; and lot three, the remainder of the land, 19.98ac.


A good crowd gathered for the auction at the Farnham Arms Hotel, Cavan.

Opening proceedings, Mr Smith sought bids in excess of €80,000 for the 19.98ac section.

Two bidders showed interest and in bids of €5,000 took the price on offer to €100,000. At that point Mr Smith put the house and 1.24ac to the auction and an opening bid of €50,000 was offered.

Mr Smith then introduced the entire and sought bids in excess of €155,000.

Again, two customers engaged in the bidding and the property was withdrawn after six bids of €5,000 brought the price on offer to €185,000.

Negotiations were immediately entered into with the highest bidder and the property was sold to the lady in question for €195,000.
