Small Kildare parcel sells for strong price

Small parcels of land continue to make a good price and this was certainly the case when 12ac of ground on the outskirts of Ballytore, Co Kildare, were auctioned last week.

The ground is described as fine tillage and grazing land, four acres of which is zoned for development.

Six bidders, all farmers, were initially active when Castledermot auctioneer Michael Lyng opened the bidding at €80,000.

The price rose in increments of €10,000 until it reached €120,000 and continued in €5,000 amounts until the property was sold for €140,000 (or €11,670/ac) to a farmer from the Athy locality.

Mr Lyng was delighted with the price but remarked that property of this size and quality in this area was making in the region of €15,000/ac last year.
