Sixmilebridge Mart to re-open after buyout

Martin Ryan

Twenty months after closing, Sixmilebridge Mart is to re-open under the ownership of local farmers, with the first sale set to be held on Saturday, August 27.

A nine-person board -- of Eddie Punch, Pat O'Reilly, Mike Ryan, Pat Freeman, Gerard Liddy, Joe O'Connell, Andrew Dundass, vice-chairman of Clare County IFA, Seán Hannon and Tom O'Connor -- has been appointed to spearhead the running of the mart, following the acquisition legalities.

The mart was bought by local farmers for €300,000 from Golden Vale Marts -- who had decided to close it in December 2009 -- after they financed the deal through the purchase of shares.
