Scottish breeder pays top prices at Belgian Blue show
A Scottish breeder paid €15,600 for two Irish champion bulls at the Annual Belgian Blue Society Premier Show and Sale at Roscrea Mart, reports Martin Ryan.
Ian Wainwright paid €9,200, the top price of the day, when he purchased the Male Champion of the Show - Sheehills Inspiration' by Bringlee Carlos out of the homebred Sheehills Dynamite - bred by Leanne Searson from Sheehills, Roscrea, Tipperary.
The reigning All Ireland Belgian Blue Junior Bull will now commence breeding at the Wainwright herd at Tothall Farm, Fife, Scotland.
Mr Wainwright also purchased the Reserve Male Champion of Show and current All Ireland Senior Bull - Boherard Hannibal by Kilowatt D'Ochain out of homebred Boherad Dazzler.
The bull fetched €6,400, the second highest price of the day.
Demand was strong for all lots on offer with an average of €4,550 being paid for bulls and an average of €2,825 for heifers.
The Champion Female award went to Boroside Illusion bred by Melvin Masterson, Rathnure, Enniscorthy, Wexford. By Attribut Du Fond De Bois out of Rathlyon Connie, she was sold to Michael Kearns from Galway for €3,000.
Reserve Champion Female was Boherard I Candy by Marquis Du Molina out of Castlecuff Diane bred by David Pearson, Clough, Ballacolla. This heifer was purchased by Billy Dunne from Laois for €2,300.
Some of the other notable transactions included the €4,600 paid by Cork buyer John Kelleher for Rosmount Hunter by Attribut Du Fond De Bois out of the home bred Rosemount Eleanor bred by Trevor Ashmore, Rosemount, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford.
