'Rural Oscars' under way

A Tipperary potato farmer, a Westmeath butcher and a Kildare saddler are among a host of people and businesses shortlisted for this year's Countryside Alliance Awards.

The awards, which are nicknamed the 'Rural Oscars', celebrate the characters, skills, traditions and enterprise of the countryside through the people who work to sustain these values.

The food category finalists include O'Donnell Crisps in Co Tipperary, Berney Brothers Saddlers in Co Kildare feature in the enterprise category and Gillivans Butchers in Moate, Co Westmeath, are one of the entries in the butcher category.
