A farmer was arrested when pursued by gardai after his tractor was in collision with a garda car in County Kerry yesterday.

The incident was filmed by a bystander in the town of Rathmore and the images were broadcast on RTE's Nine O'Clock News programme.

The broadcast showed there were two garda cars stationary on a street in the town.

It appeared gardai were trying to make contact with the driver of the tractor.

The tractor was then filmed pushing one of the garda cars sideways several feet.

A Garda Press Office spokesman told independent.ie the man was arrested and charged with dangerous driving, endangerment, and criminal damage.

The man, aged in his 60s, was detained and brought to Macroom Garda Station, said the spokesman.
