Gardai in Wicklow have stopped a driver towing a trailer full of sheep that had only three wheels.

In a message on Twitter, Gardai said the driver was left 'sheepish' and said 'you won't pull the wool over our eyes'.

It comes just days after Gardai seized a tractor in Tipperary after it was found to have only three wheels.

Garda Traffic corp who seized the tractor said the forth wheel was tied to the rear machine.

A working group of the Farm Safety Partnership Advisory Committee, is currently considering the establishment of a mandatory safety test system for tractors.

If it goes ahead, farmers could be facing the equivalent of an NCT for their tractors in an attempt to reduce the number of farmers hurt and fatally injured in farm machinery incidents.

Tractors and machinery collectively are the main cause of fatal accidents in agriculture.

This has not changed in at least 30 years, though the total numbers of accidental deaths in agriculture has declined. Between 2005 and 2014, of the 193 people killed in agriculture 94 have been killed in farm related accidents involving vehicles and machinery.
