Gardaí release images of quads and power tools seized in burglary sting

Gardai have released images of property seized in a planned operation in the Kilkenny area after a series of burglaries in recent weeks.

Uniform Gardaí in Thomastown Co Kilkenny together with detectives as part of operation Thor carried out a search of premises in the south Co Kilkenny area on Tuesday, November 14, 2017.

During the course of the search, a substantial amount of property was recovered including two caravans, a 4 X 4 vehicle, a trailer, quad bikes and a large variety of power tools.

A male in his 20s was arrested on Tuesday in the Kilkenny area in relation to this investigation.

It comes as Gardaí on routine patrol stopped van and trailer full of assorted tools at Irishtown Mountmellick at 5 am last Saturday, November 4.

Gardai said some items have already been identified as being stolen in Leixlip in September.

They are encouraging members of the public to alert anyone they may know, especially builders, who have had tools stolen recently to the discovery.

Gardai are said to be battling to curb a renewed blitz of rural burglaries conducted by Dublin-based crime gangs.

More than 40 burglaries have been recorded in one area of Cork since mid-October with suspected burglaries by Dublin gangs also taking place in Tipperary, Waterford, Limerick, Offaly, Laois and Kilkenny.

The Midlands has also witnessed a burglary blitz involving two aggravated raids where residents were threatened during break-ins.
