Man (30s) killed after deep trench he was working in collapsed

A man has died after he became trapped when a deep trench collapsed.

The man (30s) was working at a premises at Rooves More in Coachford, Co Cork when the tragedy happened just before 10am on Thursday.

Emergency services were called to the scene and both gardai and fire crews assisted with recovering the man.

The Heath and Safety Authority has confirmed that the man was working in the trench when it collapsed on him.

A HSA spokesman said that the man was killed in the incident.

The HSA will launch an investigation into the tragedy soon.

An Garda Síochána are investigating the incident under the Coroner’s Act.
