An 82ac grass farm at Doobeg, Ballymote, Co Sligo, described as a prime fattening parcel of ground is coming to auction later in the month with a guide of €6,000 to €7,000/ac.

Located two miles from Ballymote and 12 miles from Sligo, the property is well-fenced for sheep and comes with a four-bay haybarn, a lean-to and yard with stock handling facilities.

According to Sligo auctioneer Eamon Scanlon, the farm is being sold by the owner, who is retiring from farming having worked the place for 44 years.

The land consists of 70ac of good farmland and 12ac of forestry with premia left for the next five years.

An added attraction for the potential buyer is the income from forestry and other entitlements that comes to about €6,000 per annum.

The land enjoys extensive road frontage 'up the middle and down the back', according to Eamon Scanlon.

"You could count the cattle from the car," he said, evoking a whole new concept of drive-by husbandry.
