Residential farm sells for €802k after huge interest

AN 81ac residential farm at Cuffesgrange, Co Kilkenny sold at auction in three lots for a total of €802,000, or almost €10,000/ac.

Auctioneer Fintan Fennelly had a packed house for the auction of the 81ac holding, which is 5.5 miles from both Kilkenny city and Callan.

The farm was mainly in pasture, although there are 15.6ac in stubble, and came with a two-storey house in need of substantial renovation.

Lot one, comprising 15.6ac in stubble, opened at €100,000, and after three bidders showed interest in it sold to a local farmer for €152,000.

The second lot was a 22.8ac parcel of land.

It opened at €180,000 and four bidders battled it out before it was bought for €210,000 by a solicitor acting in trust.

There were three bidders who battled it out for the final section, consisting of the farmhouse on a total of 42.58ac.

It opened at €250,000 and sold for €440,000, also to a solictor acting in trust.
