Residential farm in Bellewstown on market for €450k
A 41ac residential farm located at Bellewstown in Co Meath is coming to auction with a guide price in excess of €450,000 or more than €10,000/ac.
The farm is located 7km from Duleek, 10km from Drogheda and 40km from Dublin and within sight of the Irish Sea. Not far from the property is Bellewstown Racecourse where, in 1975, the famous Barney Curley pulled off one of the most celebrated betting coups in the history of racing when his horse, Yellow Sam, at 20-1 won a national hunt race and cost the bookies £300,000 or €1.7m in current values.
Mr Curley repeated his performance earlier this year when on January 22 four horses linked to him cost the bookies a figure believed to be in the region of €2m.
Auctioneer John Harrington is hoping that no such shenanigans will be needed to sell the 41ac farm at Lisdornan, Bellewstown. The land is entirely under stubble at the moment and described by the auctioneer as a fine arable farm without an inch of waste.
The house is what one might call 'a work in progress' where an original farmhouse is in the process of being modernised and extended with accommodation that includes five bedrooms, a sitting room, kitchen, entrance porch, utility and wet room.
The farmyard is dated and needs a lot of work to bring it up to a modern standard with buildings that include a three-bay hay shed with silage walls and lean-to and a variety of stone built out buildings.
"This is a fine, compact farm of land in a good farming area," comments John Harrington, "the land is top quality and I have no doubt but there will be much local interest," he said.
The property will be brought to auction and sold in a number of lots with Lot one comprised of the residence and farmyard on 2ac, Lot two will be made up of 39ac of tillage ground and Lot three comprising the entire.
The auction takes place at the Navan salesrooms of Smith Harrington Auctioneers at 3pm on Tuesday, September 16.
