The mart trade for lambs was probably a little easier over the past week. The nice quality heavy lamb, however, continued to make up to €83 with the €1/kg. Generally, those heavier-type butcher lambs made €60-80 over. Factory lots sold for €50-70 with the weight. Young ewes with twin lambs at foot made up to €300. Culls hit a high of €141.

A smaller sale of 420 lambs at Kilkenny Mart yesterday saw the butcher lambs sell for €65-74 over the €1/kg, with the factory lots at €63-70 over.

At Athenry Mart, the heavier types made €60-72, while cull ewes hit €91-126.

Good, well-fleshed lambs made up to €80 over the weight in Fermoy.

Mountbellew Mart had a larger number of sheep on offer to previous weeks with a similar trade for lambs. Prices ran at €58-69 with the weight. Ewe lambs sold to €137. Cull ewes met a firm trade as many lots exceeded €100. Prices ran at €76-127. Trade was a tad easier for in-lamb ewes and ewes with lambs at foot. Young ewes with 1-2 lambs at foot sold for €200-250. Ewes with singles made €121-210.

Trade in Dowra Mart was similar to the previous week, as the ewe lambs made €100-135 each, while nice stores sold for €70-95. The lighter stores made €60-70 each. Cull ewes sold for €80-115 for the heavy ewes, while ewes for feeding sold for €55-75.

Store lambs at Raphoe sold for €40-64 over the weight. Factory lambs made €50-76 over. Butcher types sold for €50-83 over the €1/kg. Fat cull ewes moved for €80-141 each. Ewes with a single lamb at foot sold for €135-175/unit, while ewes rearing twin lambs made €200-305/unit.

At Maam Cross Mart, the Blackface mountain ewes running with the ram sold for €75-130. Culls moved for €45-75. Blackface ewe lambs sold up to €107, while the wethers made €55-80. Crossbred lambs sold for €62-125/hd.
