An Irishman living in Qatar topped the billing when a stud farm on 98ac made €185,000 over its guide at auction last week. Liffey View Stud at Blessington, Co Wicklow sold for €785,000.

The holding is located about 2km from Blessington, overlooking Blessington Lakes. The property includes a derelict manor house, 48 stables and a three-bedroom bungalow.

Phillip Byrne of selling agents REA Coonans Maynooth said the stud was a superb place in its day and once hosted the sire of the famous Golden Miller.

The lands are laid out in nice-sized divisions and the farm enjoys extensive road frontage. However, the property has not been in use for some time and requires significant husbandry and attention, as the yard and residences are in disrepair.

Five bidders showed their hands when matters opened at €450,000.

The property went on the market at €750,000 but when the hammer fell at €785,000 the Gulf-based bidder was the man who won out.
