Proud Rebels sweep stockjudging prizes

The Rebel County dominated the finals of the Macra/Irish Dairy Board Stockjudging competition last week, with members from Cork taking both prizes.

First prize in the senior competition went to John O'Sullivan, Whitechurch Macra, Seandun, Cork, while the under-23 competition was won by Diarmuid O'Connell, Donoughmore Macra, Muskerry, Cork.

The runner-up in the senior event was Eamon Begley, Cappoquin Macra, Waterford, while Diarmuid's sister Edel O'Connell, IT Tralee Macra was under-23 runner-up.

The competition took place at the Irish Holstein Friesian Association Open Day in Leitrim last Wednesday.

The dairy stockjudging competition takes the form of an academic test followed by the score-marking in order of merit of a pen of heifers and a pen of cows.
