Prepare for cost rises

The 2011 Teagasc economic outlook conference will provide a detailed review and outlook for the main enterprises, the trends in input costs and farmers' investment plans.

Trevor Donnellan, from the Teagasc Agricultural Economics Department, warned that higher input costs were on the horizon for 2011 and that the pattern of income volatility looked set to continue.

He said the impact of price volatility on farmers' incomes will be addressed, while methods to reduce exposure to price risk will be explored.

The Teagasc conference will take place at the Heritage Hotel, Portlaoise, on Thursday, January 20.
