Pottinger completes takeover of Traynor's
Pottinger, the Austrian farm machinery company which sells a lot of grass and tillage kit in Ireland, has completed the takeover of its Irish distributor, T Traynor and Sons of Clonmel.
It is a significant move in the industry because Traynor's had been Pottinger distributors here for more than 20 years. The new company will continue to be based at the Clonmel premises and will be called Pottinger Ireland. The Farming Independent understands it will be a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pottinger, Austria.
Under the new arrangement the emphasis will be on Pottinger machinery alone. It is hoped that a series of machinery demonstrations with good technical back-up will help boost sales in 2013.
At the FTMTA Farm Machinery Show (which we will report on in next week's issue), Pottinger confirmed its new structure will see area sales managers Sean Fitzgerald and David Osborne look after the South and North respectively. Both men are well known in machinery circles and have substantial experience, with the former a new Pottinger recruit.
The Clonmel base will stock a large supply of parts but parts will only be supplied to local dealers; the company will not provide retail parts directly to farmers or contractors.
