Paul the Baker took centre stage at the Ploughing Championships when the turned in to one of its top singing attractions.

Paul Murphy, sales manager for Stapleton’s bakery, ended up being the warm up act for Jon Kenny from comic duo d'Unbelievables.

“I sing in the shower, in the bathroom and in the car, but I’m not a singer,” he said.

But the crowds that packed in the Aldi marquee - that so expansive it’s been dubbed the Taj MahAldi - disagreed and sang and danced along as Paul belted out the tunes.

Paul, an Aldi suppliers, said he was working behind the Stapleton’s counter in the tent last year when he put on a karaoke disc to liven up the place in the last few hours.

“I went up and done one track and it was recorded and went up on YouTube and got 53,000 hits I believe,” he said.

“All week they’ve been at me would I do it and I kept saying no and they convinced me about an hour ago.”

While Paul says he has no problem singing in a pub or at a party, he was a bit more nervous without the usual dutch courage.
