Former Dovea chief Cahill dies

Dermot Cahill, former manager of Dovea AI station and a major figure in the Irish cattle industry, died suddenly on Sunday.

Before joining Dovea, Mr Cahill worked for the Department of Agriculture. The Cork native was part of the delegation which selected the first ever Simmental cattle to be imported into Ireland. As manager of Dovea he championed the British Friesian, creating a demand for the breed both at home and in export markets.

One of his final public outings was as master judge at the recent Commercial Exhibitors event in Gurteen Agricultural College.
