Blondes proving popular in Italy
Prices of €3/kg are freely available for crossbred Blonde weanlings this autumn, according to the Irish Blonde Cattle Society.
Philip Crowe of the society said Blonde crossbred weanlings were in demand for export to Italian feedlots.
"A definite premium is available for Blonde crossbreds over other breeds, due to the breed's lean, tender meat and high kill-out percentage," he said.
The society returns to the Ploughing Championships in 2013 after an absence of four years. "This year we will have a display of select pedigree cattle, including the winners from Tullamore show and cattle from the best pedigree herds in Ireland," said Mr Crowe.
There will also be a good selection of crossbred cattle on display to showcase the strengths of the breed, both as a provider of top class suckler cows and terminal sires to produce weanlings for the lucrative Italian market.
The society will have its 2013 yearbook available, as well as a list of animals for sale at the stand.
