Alan Kelly on €30m rural Ireland package: 'Three years ago we didn't have thirty cents'

Environment Minister Alan Kelly has played down criticism that the recently unveiled €30m package aimed at reviving rural Ireland is not enough.

The funding, announced today, is designed for a range of purposes including tackling minor infrastructural deficits and upgrading parks, civic areas and river walks.

Speaking at the National Ploughing Championships in Laois today, Minister Alan Kelly welcomed the scheme.

"That's €30m on top of the €250m that myself and Minister Phelan have allocated in relation to Leader."

"I suspect that that €30m will multiply. And also you have to remember, three years ago we didn't have 30cents to do something like this, so 30m is a substantial move in the right direction.
