Planner charges for AEOS applications could be €150-500, farm consultants said.

Although the Agricultural Consultants Association (ACA) has not issued any formal charging strategy for AEOS applications, president Pat Minnock said costs will be €150 upwards for simple applications.

"The cost of ordinary applications from farmers in non-SAC or commonage areas could range from €150 to €500," said Mr Minnock.

"It all depends on how much work is involved in individual applications. Where a farm visit is required, that will cost more," he added.

Full environmental plans, required for commonage, SAC and NATURA areas, will incur a bigger fee, likely to be several hundred euro more than ordinary plans.

Teagsc has indicated that AEOS fees will be based on the current REPS support charges. However, they are capped at €380 for the basic application.

Up to 15ha the fee is €140; a plan for 16-23ha will cost €270; for holdings of 24-31ha the charge is €300; and €380 for those in the 32-39ha bracket.

The cost for Sustainable Management Plans is €185 plus €75/hr for each hour over three hours.
