As the fundraising campaign for the Alex Ott Appeal continues across Munster, new events have been added to the calendar to gather funds to facilitate the rehabilitation of the well-known horseman who suffered spinal injuries in a horse fall last November. Money from these events will also go to his partner Janet and their four young children.

One of the upcoming highlights is the gala show which takes place in The Green Glens Arena, Millstreet, Co Cork on April 8. World-renowned musician Liam O'Connor and his team will provide an evening of entertainment, starting at 8pm. Ticket details are available on the 'Rock For Ott' Facebook page.

Meanwhile the Meelin Community special fundraiser dance takes place in Meelin Hall on Easter Saturday night. The entry fee is €10.

In recent weeks there have been a wide range of fundraising events taking place throughout Cork in particular, and one of the most enjoyable was the Castlemagner fun ride. This was attended by some 200 riders and the auction which followed was also a great success. The top lot - a day on the gallops and stable tour with Willie Mullins - made €1,500. Other top lots included 30 bales of haylage and a custom-made bridle. It is believed that in excess of €50,000 was raised on the day.

Other recent fund-raising events include an auction in Barry's Bar, Freemount which was run by Alex's friends in the area. The top lot was a day on the gallops and stable tour with Jessica Harrington which fetched €1,500.
