Neighbour snaps up farm

Acreage: 60ac + residence

Five bidders emerged from a packed crowd to bid on a 60ac residential farm at Mobernane, Fethard, Co Tipperary, last week.

With a pre-auction guide price of €400,000, the property was described by selling agents Dougan Fitzgerald as needing modernisation.

However, this failed to deter local bidders, who opened the sale at €200,000.

Bidding continued to €355,000 before the property was withdrawn from auction.

Negotiations continued immediately after and the sale was concluded for an undisclosed sum which is believed to be considerably higher than €355,000.

The land was of mixed quality, with some excellent ground as well as some poorer parcels within the 60 acres, while the residence also needs a good deal of work.

The successful buyer was a neighbouring farmer.
