Murphy quits Agri Trust role

Michael Murphy has resigned from the board of the Agricultural Trust, the body based in the Farm Centre, Bluebell, Dublin, that includes the Farmers Journal.

The well-known Co Cork farmer -- who has interests in dairy operations in Ireland, New Zealand, Chile and the US -- was a board member with the Agricultural Trust for the past 19 years.

Mr Murphy would not comment on the reasons for his decision to step down from the board.

But he was publicly critical of the Farmers Journal's coverage of investment companies in which fellow Cork farmer Michael Scully is involved.

ICBF in search for a new CEO

The Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF) has begun its search for a replacement for its current CEO, Brian Wickham.

The New Zealander is due to retire in October after 14 years at the helm of the ICBF.

During his time, Mr Wickham brought the nascent grouping to the point where it is now one of most important assets of the Irish livestock sector.

While the role is sure to attract interest from overseas candidates, it is expected that several high-profile Irish experts in animal genetics from within the ICBF, Teagasc and the agri sector will also be in the running for the €100,000+ position.
