Mullingar to host National Showjumping championships

Mullingar Equestrian Centre in Co Westmeath will host the Farming Independent National Showjumping Championships this Sunday.

The packed schedule includes 12 competitions in all, starting with the Primary and Advanced Primary Championships and Mini Derbys.

Next up is the Intermediate Championship, which is part of the Red Mills Masters Series, and the Intermediate Derby.

The Advanced Intermediate Championship and Derby are next, followed by the Open Championship and Derby. Finally, there will be the Advanced Open Championship, also part of the Masters Series.

A qualifying competition, consisting of two rounds, will be held in the morning for each championship class and up to 20 riders from each grade from the morning qualifier will go forward to the championship final. Additional places may be allocated in the final on the grounds of equality of penalties.

For the Derby competitions, riders may be balloted out if there are excessive entries. The primary and advanced primary mini derby classes will take place over a shorter track in a separate arena to the other classes.
