Tipperary farmer Michael Nihill is to host a cross-country run on his 150ac farm that is better known as a venue for four-legged competitors.

Blackfort farm, located just outside Nenagh, is the venue for several popular hunter trials every year but this August it will host a human cross-country contest.

Muck Off is a new challenge aimed at runners of all abilities and fitness, from semi-professional athletes to novices who want to challenge themselves physically and mentally.

The course encompasses one of the most impressive natural venues in Ireland, with rolling hills, streams and water courses, as well as woodlands overlooking Lough Derg.

The event will take place on Sunday, August 5, with team and individual competitions running over tracks of 5 and 10km.

Runners will tackle the logs, steps, water obstacles and numerous other fences that were designed by Michael Nihill and his family to cater for equestrian events on their beef farm. Entries are now being taken for the cross-country challenge on www.muckoff.ie.
