More ideas on CAP reforms

More farmers are joining forces to fight CAP reform proposals put forward by the Department of Agriculture and the main farming organisations.

The National Farm Family and Milk Rights Group are demanding that all active farmers should receive a minimum payment of €250/ac for up to 80ac under a new CAP.

Group chairman Donie Shine said that Single Farm Payments (SFP) on acreages above 80ac should be reduced gradually to ensure the survival of family farms.

Mr Shine also wants the CAP reforms to be implemented in full in 2014, rather than the gradual transition being proposed by the Department of Agriculture.

Unlike proposals by other organisations, the Rights group says its new CAP model would retain the maximum number of viable farmers, which is one of the main objectives of the EU and the Government.
