Mixed results in Co Kildare

Jim O’Brien

It was a mixed result for auctioneer Michael McWey and a 34ac residential farm in five lots at Rathmuck, Kildare. One lot, extending to 5ac, sold under the hammer making €67,000 or almost €13,500/ac. A parcel of 8.6ac was withdrawn at €40,000 and sold afterwards while an 8.7ac plot was withdrawn at €45,000 and sold after auction. The house and yard on 11.5ac was withdrawn without a bid and is currently under negotiation.

The holding is located 5km from Kildare town on the Kildangan road and 5km from the M7 motorway. Aside from a marginal plot of 8.7ac, the land is described as good Kildare grassland fronting on to a lane.

The residence, a two bedroom 1930s Land Commission bungalow, is recently renovated while the yard includes an old Victorian stone shed with slate roof and a lofted store.

Local landowners bought the three plots sold during and after the auction while negotiations around the house and 11.5ac are continuing.
