Meat assurance proposals are unrealistic: IFA
The IFA has claimed suggestions from the retail sector of a lifetime assurance for cattle and sheep are "undeliverable".
The IFA's national livestock chairman, Henry Burns, said such a development would add nothing to reassuring the consumer about the quality or provenance of beef.
Mr Burns said that there were 2.8m animal movements every year through livestock marts and farm-to-farm movements. He said retailers and processors needed to recognise the reality of this situation.
