McCarthy talks €50m investment

Young farmers in counties Cork, Tipperary and Cavan are currently in talks with agri-investor Jim McCarthy about a possible €50m investment in dairy farming in Ireland.

While Mr McCarthy was reluctant to reveal any details of the negotiations, he confirmed that he was dealing with "half a dozen really good young farmers".

Last month, it was revealed that the Kildare investor was looking for Irish dairy farmers interested in taking up joint-ownership deals with foreign investors he represents.

There is speculation that the investors may be linked to Saudi Arabia.
