One of the last Land Commission farms in the Maynooth area sold at auction last week making a record price of €670,000, or almost €28,000/ac. The compact 24ac residential farm at Moyglare, Maynooth surpassed its pre-auction guide by €95,000.

Located on the Meath side of the county boundary with Kildare the farm is just over a mile from Maynooth. The house on the property is in need of total refurbishment while the 24ac of land are in one division with nice mature hedgerows and some fine specimen trees. A tributary of the River Rye flows through the farm.

Eamon O'Flaherty of Property Partners Brady accepted an opening bid of €300,000. The property went on the market at €650,000 and four further bids saw the hammer fall at €670,000 when the farm sold to a local businessman and farmer.

Speaking after the auction Mr O'Flaherty expressed delight at the strong price achieved and hopes he will find similar farms for the five disappointed under bidders.
