Eventing Ireland has just launched an exciting new campaign to encourage new riders to 'Try Eventing'.
Aimed at attracting new members to the sport and offering better value to existing members, the Try Eventing campaign includes reduced membership fees and new eventing classes.
From now on, riders of 12 years and over can take an unlimited number of day memberships, which are being reduced in price from €25 to €20 for members and €35 to €25 for non-members.
There is also a loyalty scheme for this year's first-time members.
Under this scheme, new riders who take part in five non-member days during the season automatically get restricted membership for themselves and their animal for the rest of the season.
In the case of an U18 rider, the owner of the animal will get free owner membership included in the package.
In addition, the U21 discounted membership rate, which was first introduced in July last year, is to be extended to U25 members.
Also coming this year is a new league for riders of 18-25 years old who can compete at 1* level on an unrestricted horse. There will be 10 classes over the season and a League Champion will be announced at the final event.
Several new classes are to be introduced this year, including 'Quick Format' eventing taking place at Ballindenisk and 'Flexi-Eventing' at Meadow Equestrian Centre.
Eventing Ireland chairman John Wright said he was pleased to have 55 events taking place this year, an increase of 12 on last year.
The new events include seven new venues, which, he added, would attract new competitors.
"These new rates and classes are designed to show people that eventing is not all serious stuff," said Mr Wright. "Not everybody plays rugby for Ireland and not all riders want to compete at the top level."
"These new classes are aimed at members who want to try out eventing at a fun level."
