German tractor maker Deutz-Fahr has added three new 4-cylinder tractor models to its existing six series range that will appeal to Irish farmers and contractors.

The move comes after Deutz recently opened its new €90m state-of-the-art tractor assembly plant at its headquarters in Lauingen, Bavaria. The new production facility has a capacity of 5,000-6,000 units/annum, with one completed tractor coming off the manufacturing line every 15 minutes.

All models in the new 4-cylinder tractor range now feature higher permissible weights (of 11,500kg) and a longer wheelbase (2,543mm) for improved stability and a comfortable driving performance. Design features of the 4-cylinder models are similar to those of the 6-cylinder versions which were awarded 'Tractor of the Year for Design' last year.

The 156hp, 164hp and 171hp Deutz TCD 4.1 4-cylinder engines comply with the requirements for emissions Stage IV. The new engines offer a hefty starting torque and high torque reserves across a wide speed range. In addition to a compact cooling system, which can be opened completely and easily cleaned, the continuously variable transmission (CVT) equipped models are also equipped with a new electric Visco fan.

Three transmission variants are available: from the simple, manual five-speed powershift transmission with six forward powershift stages and three reverse stages (30+15 gears) and the newly developed fully automatic RC shift gearbox (30+15 gears, with creeper gear 54+27 gears), to the efficient CVT transmission for continuous driving and working from 0 to 50km/h.

For all transmissions, the maximum speed is achieved at a reduced engine speed to save fuel. On the RC shift models, the top speed of 50km/h is reached with only 1,530 rpm, saving fuel and reducing noise.

Deutz claims that a unique feature of this tractor class is the front axle with independent suspension, which is equipped with an anti-dive and anti-rise control and a booster brake system. This ensures maximum traction and safety in all situations.

The hydraulic system has also been adopted from the firm's bigger 6-cylinder models and can be configured individually depending on the operation requirements.

The standard pump capacity is 84 litre/min on the basic models, while there is a loader special system with a capacity of 120 litre/min as standard on the higher spec models, with options of up to 160 or 170 litre/min if needed. Up to five electro-hydraulic auxiliary control valves can be selected at the rear, and two at the front. All electronic valves can be proportionally controlled.

The position-controlled front linkage (4,110kg lifting capacity) is a new option for the TTV models.

The three-point hitch can be equipped with up to four hydraulic outlets and an ISOBUS interface at the front. The rear linkage can lift up to 9,700kg. Four PTO speeds at the rear (540, 540ECO, 1000, 1000ECO) come as standard, as well as an optional 1000 or 1000 ECO at the front.

The 4-cylinder models come with a new cab featuring improvements to all-round view and operating convenience. Fourth generation LED lights are available as an option to enhance the visibility during night work. All models are equipped for precision farming.
